Flashpaste es un programa para copiar textos, una utilidad que ha sorprendido a miles de usuarios en todo el mundo. El Portapapeles de Windows es una herramienta adecuada para gran parte de usuarios. Sin embargo, otros muchos (escritores, codificadores, programadores...) necesitan una herramienta con mayores capacidades y prestaciones, y que sea programable. Flashpaste satisface estas necesidades... y otras muchas.

Fundamentalmente, Flashpaste tiene dos importantes prestaciones. La primera es un ingenioso sistema para insertar textos. Al escribir correos (e-mails) o elaborar documentos, con frecuencia usamos las mismas palabras, frases, saludos, direcciones de correo, de Internet, etc. Flashpaste es un programa especialmente indicado para quienes tienen que prestar apoyo o soporte tecnico mediante correo electronico, ya que habitualmente tienen que responder a las mismas preguntas con iguales respuestas. Con Flashpaste, los usuarios de PC pueden 'programar' las direcciones, palabras, frases y parrafos que usan habitualmente. El usuario simplemente presiona una combinacion de teclas (que puede programar mediante las opciones de Flashpaste) para lanzar una lista de tipos o caracteres, y combinarlos con otras frases, palabras, expresiones... en un texto determinado.

Se pueden usar varias 'macros' mientras se elaboran lineas. Una 'macro' es una secuencia de instrucciones que se activan cuando se insertan en las lineas o en el entramado de un texto. Con ellas, se pueden agregar la fecha y hora actuales, insertar comandos que reproducen el efecto de las teclas Tab o Enter, etc.

Una segunda prestacion es el Historial del Portapapeles. El Portapapeles de Windows guarda e inserta exclusivamente el ultimo texto copiado. Por el contrario, Flashpaste guarda un historial con todas las palabras, frases y elementos que se van copiando. Los usuarios pueden luego, de forma muy sencilla, insertarlos en el lugar (documento, carta...) que quieran.
